Still Going Strong: Stuart, Florida Photographer Featured in the Palm Beach Post

By Diane Dultmeier | Stuart, Florida Family Photographer

Reflecting on a proud moment—and why it still matters today.

July 12, 2012 is a date I’ll always remember. That morning, I opened The Palm Beach Post and saw my own face smiling back at me—along with a thoughtful article that captured not just my work, but my journey as a photographer.

The feature, written by Julius Whigham and photographed by Thomas Cordy, told the story of how I went from a Kansas high school student with a camera to a portrait photographer here on Florida’s Treasure Coast. I’ve been creating family portraits in Stuart and the surrounding areas for over 25 years, but seeing it in print that day was something special.

The Irony of Being Photographed

Let me just say: being on the other side of the camera is weird. I felt so awkward during my photo shoot for the article—and that’s saying something coming from someone who’s been a professional photographer for decades!

But here’s the funny thing: that experience helped me relate even more deeply to my clients. I know what it feels like to feel unsure or self-conscious in front of the lens. And that’s why I make it my mission to help every person I photograph feel completely at ease. People often tell me that’s one of my best gifts, and I take that to heart.

Why I Still Love Creating Portraits

In the article, I talked about how I got my start in newspaper photography—and why I chose to pivot toward portrait work instead. I’ve always loved capturing joy, connection, and the beautiful moments that make up our lives. During my years as a photojournalist, I photographed breaking news, but I found my heart was most drawn to the quiet, meaningful moments that unfold in everyday life.

These days, I still bring that photojournalistic eye to every family, senior, and professional session I photograph. But I do it in a way that centers you, your story, and your legacy.

Giving Back Has Always Been Part of What I Do

The article also touched on something that continues to matter deeply to me: community involvement. At the time, I was partnering with Care Net to support women facing unplanned pregnancies by offering complimentary sessions to anyone who donated $99 or more.

That spirit of giving back still guides me today—from charitable silent auction donations to working with local organizations that need photography for their mission.

Some Things Have Changed. But the Heart of My Work Hasn’t.

While it’s been years since the article was published, I still feel incredibly grateful for that moment and what it represents. I’ve photographed many portraits since then, most of them for families right here in Stuart, Palm City, Sewall’s Point, and even in Vero Beach and Fort Pierce. I’ve watched kids grow up, couples mark milestones, and generations come together for portraits that become part of their homes and their memories.

And I’m still here, camera in hand, ready to help you create something lasting.
