Feeling the Heat (in a Good Way!) at Lala Hot Yoga in Stuart, Florida

From Sweat to Serenity: My Journey with Hot Yoga on the Treasure Coast
Can you imagine stepping outside into the South Florida summer heat—90+ degrees—and actually feeling refreshed?
That’s exactly how I feel twice a week after a class at Lala Hot Yoga in Stuart, Florida.
You might be thinking:
"Wait… hot yoga? In Florida? In the summer?"
Yes. And here’s why it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself.
What Is Hot Yoga?
Hot yoga is a series of 26 postures and two breathing exercises done in a room heated to 105°F. That heat serves a purpose—it helps loosen muscles, deepen stretches, and stimulate a full-body detox through sweat.
This practice strengthens, tones, and flushes every system of the body, supporting vitality, flexibility, and overall well-being.
🔥 Why I Love Hot Yoga (Even As a Beginner)
1. It Boosts My Confidence
I’ll be honest—I was scared before my first class.
I texted my friend (and hairstylist) Patty Loveland with my fears:
“What if I faint? What if I can’t keep up? What if everyone laughs at me?”
She “laughed” kindly back and said: “Just try it.”
She was right. I didn’t faint. No one laughed. And I’m still going.
In just a few months, I’ve grown stronger and more flexible. I can now do postures that seemed impossible at first. That sense of growth has been powerful—not just physically, but emotionally.
As a full-time family photographer here in Stuart, I need strength and agility to get into the perfect positions while photographing children and families. Hot yoga helps me stay fit for my work—and for life.
2. It’s Shame-Free and Supportive
Owner and teacher Katie Carroll has created a calm, non-judgmental space where everyone is encouraged to go at their own pace. If I need to rest, I do. If I’m not feeling a posture that day, I listen to my body.
There’s no comparison. No competition. Just growth and grace.
Katie reminds us often:
“Do what feels right for your body—today.”
3. I Know What to Expect (No Fancy Footwork Required)
Unlike chaotic aerobics classes of the past (hello, 1990s step class trauma), hot yoga follows a predictable, structured sequence. There are 26 postures, always in the same order. I find comfort in that rhythm.
And funny enough—I’ve discovered that I enjoy being told what to do… in yoga class, at least. (My husband may have different feedback.)
4. Rest is Built In
This surprised me: Resting is an intentional part of the practice. Between floor poses, we literally lie on our mats and breathe. This pose is called Savasana—also known as “corpse pose.”
Those moments of stillness and deep breathing are some of the most peaceful parts of my week.
5. Summer in Stuart Feels Cool After Hot Yoga
I had no idea how much I could sweat until hot yoga. My face, scalp, arms—everything drips. And I love it.
After class, stepping outside into the Florida heat feels downright refreshing. I feel tired, yes—but also calm, grounded, and proud of what my body just did.
