The Most Frequent Thing I Hear as a Family Portrait Photographer in Stuart, Florida (and Why It Matters)
By Diane Dultmeier | Stuart, Florida Family Photographer
“I’ve been meaning to call you…”
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that phrase while out in Stuart or running errands in Palm City, I’d have quite the collection! Usually, it’s followed by a quick smile and a sigh.
I know exactly how it feels. As a woman, a business owner, and a mom, I know that life on the Treasure Coast is wonderful, but it’s also incredibly busy. We mean to do the things that matter, but time just slips away. Days turn into weeks. Weeks turn into seasons.
Before we know it, a whole year has passed.
The "Then" and the "Now"
I recently looked at these two images of the same family, taken years apart on a dock right here in Martin County.
Looking at the first photo, I remember that stage of life. The curls, the tiny toes, the way they looked up at their parents. Then, in what feels like a literal blink…
They are grown. Young women, standing tall on that same wood-planked pier.
My own kids are 22 and 25 now, and honestly, it still shocks me. I find myself wondering where all the years went. The saddest conversations I’ve had over my 25 years in photography aren’t about the sessions that were "perfect"—they’re with the people who meant to take the portraits, but didn't. Sometimes, someone they loved is no longer here. Often, the kids simply grew up before the "right time" ever arrived.
Why We Wait
Most people don’t put off portraits because they don’t want them. They put them off because it feels like a lot to figure out.
What should we wear so we look like "us" but better?
Which Stuart beach or Palm City park should we pick?
How will we ever choose the best images from a gallery of hundreds?
Where will we even hang them?
I Do Things Differently
I don’t want this to be one more tedious project on your To-Do list. That’s why I’ve designed Dultmeier Photography to be full-service. I’m here to guide you through every single step:
The Brainstorm: We start with an in-home consultation to choose a location that fits your family and your home.
The Wardrobe: I give you simple, clear ideas on what to wear without overcomplicating it.
The Session: I give you and your family full guidance so you look and feel your best—no "awkward" posing required.
The Final Piece: I help you choose your favorites and decide on the perfect sizes. Then, while you go on with your life, I create your artwork and even oversee the professional installation in your home.
A Gentle Nudge
You don’t have to have all the answers before we talk. That’s what I’m here for. If you’ve been watching the sunset over the St. Lucie River and thinking about how much your kids have changed this year, consider this your gentle nudge.
Let’s start a conversation before another season slips by.
