Celebrating your Adult Kids

Some people think this:

“My kids are grown now. The days of family portraits are over.”

My expert opinion: this is (simply) not true.

Because, actually, many of my clients are SO HAPPY they made time for a family portrait session with their adult kids, of their core family unit.

  • The one before anyone is married.

  • The portrait session that celebrates all the hard work through the years of ups and downs.

  •  The portrait that will live on the walls long after your kids have flown the nest and even started families of their own.

This is the Palm City backyard where they grew up, complete with the rope swing and their dog. Many childhood memories in this image.

I also love to create images of each of your kids as the (very different) individuals they have become. And images of you and your husband, as you celebrate YOUR relationship and enjoy more time together again.

Sometimes we re-enact a pose from long ago—just for fun!

This family session might also be the one where you get to watch your kids in their own relationship with EACH OTHER. It is truly fun as a parent to stand on the sidelines and see your kids interact together. And have fun together. As a mom, I can say that seeing my two boys in relationship to each other makes my heart the most happy. In a photo shoot, those moments will be captured by me, not you. (Because we all know they won’t do it for you if you point a camera in their direction. But they will for me. It’s the same for me if I try to photograph my boys, even though I am a professional photographer!)

I truly enjoy seeing how my clients’ kids have grown into adults and the fun dynamic between being their parent and also “letting go” at the same time. It’s both a challenging and a joyful time of life.

(I’m right there too. My kids are 18 and 21.)

Our family had a portrait session in our Stuart, Florida backyard somewhat recently and I am so glad we did! I have the canvas of the four of us prominently displayed in our home. We did the session last Fall and I can already see that their faces have matured since then. I love having it on the wall to remind me that we love each other (mostly during those “discussions”when they are pointing out, “I AM an adult now Mom!”)

Whether you are a new client or I’ve photographed you one time or many, I would LOVE to connect with you and move toward creating something I know you and your kids will cherish.

Need ideas for Martin County locations, clothing, getting everyone on board? As a Family Portrait Expert here in Stuart, Florida, I have lots of experience and can help with everything, down to figuring out clothes that minimize imperfections and making the session so easy and fun that your husband actually talks about how great it was.

So, no worries about all that stuff that might be churning around in your head.

If any of what I’ve written speaks to you, please don’t wait and have regrets later. Contact me now and we can get started! No one has ever told me they regretted their family portraits.
